Weather Web SitesThe end of NIDS has arrived. For those of you who may not know, NIDS stands for (N)exRad (I)nformation (D)elivery (S)ystem. This was a contract for delivery of radar information to the public from the National Weather Service's Doppler radar. This contract expired December 31st, and you can now get this information directly from the National Weather Service on the internet. These images seem to be updated in the 6-8 minute time-frame which is the same as the pay-services. While outside vendors will still offer other services along with the radar, such as lightning strikes, satellite imagery, etc., the NWS site is great for those who only want radar imagery and don't want to pay for it. |
